In this friendly and hands-on class, participants will learn how to sew their very own insulated tote bag — a practical and stylish project you’ll be proud to use every day.
With step-by-step instruction and guided use of a sewing machine, you’ll build confidence in basic sewing techniques while creating a lined tote bag that can help keep your lunch, snacks, or essentials warm or cool. Along the way, we’ll cover beginner-friendly skills like cutting fabric, sewing straight seams, working with insulating materials, and installing a simple zipper.
Whether you’re brand new to sewing or just looking for a fun way to practice, this class is all about learning, creating, and connecting — no experience necessary!
Sewing Machine Class Supply List – Insulated Tote Bag
Fabric:

1 fat quarter or 1/3 yard for the outer fabric

1 fat quarter or 1/3 yard for the lining fabric
(If using directional fabric, 1/2 to 3/4 yard is recommended) -
1 piece of fabric measuring 8” x 12” for handles
Insulation & Structure:

1/2 yard of Insul-Bright (recommended for lunch totes to keep items warm or cold)
OR -
1 yard of fusible fleece (non-insulated option)
Closures & Finishing:

1 zipper, 12” or longer

2 yards of double-fold bias tape (optional, for finishing inside seams)
Use narrow or 1/2" wide bias tape, or finish seams with a serger or zigzag stitch
Optional Supplies:

Quilt basting spray (e.g., 505 spray – helpful but not required)
