Quilting Basics

In this class, you’ll learn simple and effective techniques for creating quilt labels and bindings. If your sewing machine can stitch letters and numbers, we’ll put that feature to use. If not, no worries—I’ll show you how to create beautiful labels using permanent markers instead. As a bonus, you’ll also receive a paper-pieced Christmas label pattern to take home and enjoy.

Supply List

  • Sewing machine or embroidery machine (with 5" × 7" hoop, if available)

  • 1 fat quarter of white or cream fabric (for the label)

  • Fine point permanent markers (optional, if you have them)

  • At least ½ yard of fabric for the binding (enough for a quilt up to 52" × 66"; bring more if your quilt is larger)

  • Thread and matching bobbin (to coordinate with binding fabric)

  • General sewing supplies
